FREE Weekly Information Session

The Mount Saint Vincent Foster Care Program invites you to attend “Preparing to Become A Foster Parent”.

Step 1: Scheduling a 1:1 session – Learn and ask questions about our program, the child welfare system, and how to begin your foster care journey.

Step 2: Completing application materials – Review all the components involved in this step, including: medical exams, comprehensive background checks, references and other required documents.

Step 3: Reviewing training requirements – Learn about the state of Colorado’s required 28-hour pre-service curriculum for foster parents. Hosted in a hybrid virtual format, the National Training and Development (NTDC) series is based on research and input from experts, families who have experience with fostering or adopting children, and former foster and adoptive youth. You’ll also learn how to access the curriculum.

Step 4: Preparing for your home study – Get an overview of the required assessments of your home and family for certification. Completing in-home interviews and finalizing the home study take about 60 days. Once your home study is approved and all licensure requirements are completed, you are ready to accept a placement!

Step 5: Receiving your first placement – Learn how a child entering foster care may be placed in your home based on their needs, and your family’s strengths and preferences.

We know there are plenty of questions about this unique journey so we’ll have plenty of time for Q&As. If you've been thinking about becoming a foster parent, but having trouble knowing how to begin, don't miss this webinar.

If you live in one of these counties, please schedule an individual information session by sending an email to fostercare@msvhome.org
