Extraordinary Nurses, Extraordinary Patient Care

A Note from your Nurse Administrator, Angie Scartezina, MSN, RN:

“Spending the majority of my career at Primary Children’s Hospital, and now leading this extraordinary team, I witness nurses providing the highest quality of care daily. Primary Children’s Hospital nurses are committed to promoting health and healing of all children through effective patient and family centered care.”

“As Primary Children’s Hospital nurses, we are committed to The Child First and Always.”

About PCH Nursing

Primary Children’s Hospital uses Intermountain Healthcare’s Nursing Professional Practice Model (NPPM), in alignment with Intermountain Healthcare’s mission, vision, values, and fundamentals of extraordinary care to guide nursing practice. The Quality-Caring Model (QCM), which exposes the hidden value nursing (caring) and supports the relationship between nursing and quality health outcomes, serves as the framework for nurses’ daily practice as described in the NPPM. Our caregivers at all levels advocate and strive for equity. They recognize and take action to promote opportunities for each other, patients, families, and communities to live the healthiest lives possible.

100 Years of Pediatric Nursing

Primary Children’s Hospital opened it’s doors on May 11, 1922, and since it’s founding we’ve been driven by our Primary Promise: to keep The Child First and Always. Everything we do, every decision we make is about what’s best for the child, now, and forever.
Each year, we care for 100,000 children regardless of the ability to pay. We’re the only Level I Pediatric Trauma Center in the Intermountain West, serving more than 400,000 square miles. We have expertise in 60 pediatric specialties and provide care for children with the most complex injuries and illnesses. We’re honored to be part of Intermountain Healthcare, a nationally recognized not-for-profit healthcare system, and are grateful for our valuable partnership with the University of Utah School of Medicine. We’re excited for the opportunity to celebrate our first 100 years, but above all, we’re grateful to renew commitment to put The Child First and Always for the next century to come. Together, we’ll continue to improve the health of our nation, one child, family, and community at a time.

We are proud to be a Magnet Recognized Facility. This prestigious nursing specific designation is awarded to those hospitals that provide safe and healthy nursing care to their patients and employ supported and happy nurses. This committment to our staff and patients will continue as we work each day to keep this coveted recognition.

"As Primary Children’s nurse administrator, it has been a privilege to lead this amazing nursing team on our journey to achieve Magnet designation over the past three years. I always believed this honor was truly within our reach because I know our nurses are among the most skilled, empowered, and supportive nurses in the profession. Now as a Magnet organization, we will continue the work of providing the highest level of nursing care to our patients and families in putting “The Child First and Always.”
