Intermountain Primary Children’s Hospital, in partnership with University of Utah Health, is one of the best pediatric hospitals in America, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2023-24 Best Children’s Hospitals ranking.

Primary Children’s was ranked in seven pediatric specialties, including cancer care, cardiology and heart surgery, gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, pulmonology, and urology, according to the publication’s 2023-2024 Best Children’s Hospitals rankings.

U.S. News & World Report annually ranks the top 50 children’s hospitals in 10 specialties, which also includes neonatal care, orthopedics, and diabetes/endocrine disorders. Behavioral Health will be added in 2024. The rankings are designed to help patients, their families, and doctors make informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions.

“These high rankings for Primary Children’s Hospital are testament to the tireless efforts and collaboration of our physicians, nurses, and the scores of caregivers devoted to providing high-quality care for children every day,” said Dustin Lipson, president of Intermountain Primary Children’s Hospital.

Five of Primary Children’s ranked specialties improved their rankings this year over last year, including Cardiology & Heart Surgery, Gastroenterology & GI Surgery, Cancer, Urology, and Pulmonology. Additionally, Primary Children’s Neurology and Neurosurgery patient outcomes tied for No. 1 in the nation.

To determine the rankings, U.S. News analyzes data from 119 children’s hospitals to determine those excelling in clinical outcomes and level and quality of hospital resources. Also included are results from a digital survey sent to all board-certified pediatric physicians in the nation, asking their opinions on the best facilities in the country in their specialty.

Primary Children’s has been ranked as one of the nation’s best children’s hospitals for several years.

“We are recruiting some of the nation’s best physicians [and are] committed to continually improving clinical care to help Primary Children’s patients thrive,” said Angelo P. Giardino, MD, PhD, chair of the University of Utah School of Medicine’s Department of Pediatrics and chief medical officer at Primary Children’s Hospital. “The recognition from U.S. News & World report underscores this commitment and our outstanding teamwork to high-quality, compassionate care to children.”
