Effective Handoffs

A communication lapse from the ordering provider's office could have prevented a patient from out of state from receiving care they needed during their stay Primary Children’s Hospital, if it weren’t for Suzie Daufenbach, OR Data Coordinator at Surgical Services.

Suzie tirelessly made calls, ensured proper order entries, and ultimately secured an additional procedure for the child. Suzie's unwavering dedication relieved the family of the burden of another trip, spared the child from unnecessary risks associated with additional anesthesia, and resulted in cost savings for both the patient’s family and the hospital.

“To be clear, this effort was above and beyond what is expected of a surgery scheduler,” said Melissa Betts, RN-Shared Leader-BLS/ACLS/PALS – Operating Rooms, who nominated Suzie for Extraordinary Experiences recognition.  “This patient's mother was in tears pre-operative because of the challenges her child poses when needing medical care. Suzie made a difference more than she realizes.”

Thank you, Melissa, for recognizing Suzie’s extraordinary efforts. Both of you will receive prizes!
