Equity as a strategic priority

co-creating equity and a call for action

Equity Hands

The Intermountain Medical Group - Utah leadership has identified five strategic priorities for 2022:

  1. Access
  2. Best Place to Work
  3. Consumer Experience
  4. Equity
  5. Operational Excellence

Each strategic focus area will include all the work underway in the Medical Group in that area, including efforts to address relevant KPIs. Each of the 5 Strategic priorities will be addressed in the MG Brief in a series of articles. Today, we provide an overview of Equity.

Janelle Robinson, Service Line Director for Behavior Health and Bruce Dent, Human Resource Director, and Dr. Naresh Agarwal, Associate Chief Medical Officer – Primary Care will co-lead efforts to address Equity. In partnership with a cross-functional steering committee, reflecting our diverse communities, this team will drive measurable performance in creating a sense of belonging amongst all our caregivers – clinical and operational. This will, in turn, enable us to provide culturally competent care for our patients, fulfilling our mission to help people live the healthiest lives possible.

Together, we will:

  • Identify issues related to equity and inclusion within IMG.
  • Foster a safe, authentic, and inclusive environment and culture.
  • Develop measures, monitor, and improve data related to the equity fundamental.
  • Develop and deploy equity-related strategic initiatives for IMG.
  • Escalate and support Intermountain leadership on the implementation of system-level initiatives and strategies.
  • Escalate and offer recommendations to Medical Group Leadership Team on actions necessary to create more equitable and inclusive processes, structures, and culture.Identify, support, and collaborate with groups external to this committee that are working in the equity space.
  • Advocate for underserved groups within Intermountain and within our community (related to IMG services).
  • Inspire and encourage others to join in the work to create a more equitable workplace and society.
