Business cell phone policy update

Cellphone

In September 2021, Intermountain Medical Group – Utah leadership announced plans to move from its legacy system of reimbursing individuals for business use of personal cellular lines to the system used by the rest of the organization as of the end of 2022.

The Enterprise system supplies a business line of service to caregivers and charges a small monthly amount for personal use. The individual caregiver purchases and owns their device. The Service Catalog provides highly discounted prices for devices and a $200 purchase credit to caregivers for a new device every two years.

As of May 2022, about 1,900 caregivers remain on the legacy plan.

To transition to the Enterprise Plan, caregivers can make arrangements and order a new device online or by following these instructions.

Please recall that payroll credit for personal cellular lines and purchase credit for personal devices will be discontinued on December 31, 2022.

Business cell phone policy summary

Rationale and Advantages

  • Managing a single system is simpler and more efficient.
  • Individual caregivers can save on their individual monthly bills and on the price of devices.
  • Intermountain will save on the expense of cell phone support through volume pricing.

Key Changes – Account & Cell Number & Payroll

  • The account and phone number will be owned and managed by Intermountain
    • Individuals may obtain a new phone number or may request an existing phone number be transferred to Intermountain management.
    • If an individual were to leave Intermountain in the future, they can reclaim ownership of the number for ongoing personal use.
  • After transition, there will no longer be a cellular credit to individuals’ paychecks.  Instead, Intermountain pays the monthly cellular cost directly to the carrier, and each individual will have a small fee ($25-$40---$25 for most caregivers) deducted from one paycheck per month to cover personal use of the cellular account.
    • This covers unlimited talk/text/data.

 Key Changes - Devices

  • Individuals own the cellular device.
  • Upon enrollment or conversion to the Intermountain plan, each caregiver is eligible for a new device.  A basic device is available at no cost.  Caregivers wishing to purchase an upgraded device receive a $200 credit toward the purchase price.
  • New/upgrade devices are ordered through Intermountain Service Matters rather than directly from carriers or retail stores.
  • Device prices are substantially discounted, compared to retail.
  • Upgrade eligibility is every 2 years.
