Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is a professional requirement for all Intermountain clinicians (and most caregivers) and a desirable skill for everyone.  Intermountain uses the Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) system from the American Heart Association to certify and maintain certification for caregivers.

RQI requires a brief session each quarter to complete an online cognitive module, and brief session of skills practice on a mannequin workstation. Mannequins are permanently located in many Intermountain facilities, and traveling mannequins move on a circuit through locations not physically close to fixed stations.

The American Heart Association endorses brief quarterly practice to maintain knowledge and physical skills. The quarterly RQI system is the most time-efficient means to maintain a BLS certificate. Due to the holidays, please get your 4th quarter RQI done early, before December 15.

During the pandemic, access to mannequins became more challenging and a larger-than-usual number of clinicians have had lapses in compliance. Sanctions for non-compliance were not undertaken during the pandemic; but we would now like all physicians, APPs and caregivers to resume their quarterly RQI training to keep this important, lifesaving skill current.
  • Log in to RQI here to check your current status and do quarterly training.
  • A list of permanent mannequin stations is here [NEED LINK]
  • Team up and make it fun!  A traveling station can be brought to meetings or gatherings.  Contact Stephanie Proffitt for information on traveling mannequin stations.
  • If you are behind by 2 or more quarters, your account can be reset, rather than having to make up missed sessions; however, this will nullify CME credits for sessions that you have completed this year.   Contact Stephanie Proffitt to have your account reset should you wish.
