Wear a face shield at work each day if you interact with patients and visitors

Caregivers working with patients and visitors should wear eye protection at all times as an important part of your PPE. While goggles can be worn, face shields should be your first choice for eye protection.

Face shields are the best practice and provide the needed eye protection. They provide coverage for your mask, allowing you to preserve the mask, and they help to decrease the number of times you touch your face. Remember to keep your face shield on and don’t take it off when you’re at the nurses’ station.

Reuse your face shield for as long as possible and don’t throw it away after only one use. Face shields can be safely reused. Clean and disinfect your face shield when you remove it for a break, if it becomes wet or soiled, or you’re finishing your shift. If the foam or elastic becomes loose on your face shield, you can easily repair it. Face shield repair supplies can be ordered through your Materials Manager with the ordering information below.
