The McKay-Dee Surgery Center & Orthopedics

Kelli Taylor and CarriAnn Decker at the McKay-Dee Surgery Center & Orthopedics on the hospital’s North Campus were more than willing to help their teammates when a critical piece of equipment — the portable x-ray machine in the surgical center — needed repair and there were some hiccups in getting it fixed. The portable x-ray is used with post-operative patients. The caregivers at the surgery center, which is located about a half mile north of the main hospital campus, were scrambling for an alternative. That’s when they reached out to Kelli and CarriAnn for help.

Kelli and CarriAnn, both radiology techs, work downstairs from the surgical center in the Medical Group orthopedics clinic, but they were happy to bring post-op patients who needed x-rays into their rooms. While the surgery center’s equipment was down for about three weeks, Kelli and CarriAnn squeezed in surgical patients between their regular patients. They ensured no one had to go to the main McKay-Dee Hospital for x-rays.

“They’ve been extremely accommodating and amazing to work with in allowing us to use the Medical Group x-ray equipment with our surgery patients on North Campus,” says Lisa Sanford, director of imaging services at McKay-Dee. “Their actions have facilitated a much smoother process for these patients. We can’t express how fantastic these caregivers are, and how appreciative the patients and our X-ray staff are of their collaboration and communication through these unique equipment downtime issues we’ve experienced.”

Katie Bodily, practice manager at the orthopedics and sports medicine clinic, says, “While Kelli and CarriAnn don’t feel like they did anything extraordinary, their willingness to collaborate with the surgical center team to improve just one patient’s experience makes a difference. If we all did that every day, think of all the patients who’d have an exceptional experience in our facilities! These ladies are an asset to our clinic for not only their skill, but their amazing patient care.”
