Greg Myers

A woman recently sent a note to Jeff Olson, Intermountain’s system director of ambulatory care pharmacy services, to let him know how much she appreciates the pharmacy at the Memorial Clinic in Salt Lake City. She said she especially appreciates Greg Myers, the clinic’s pharmacy manager.

Here’s what she said:

“I’ve been getting my medication from the Memorial Clinic for the last decade and I’d like to tell you about the care I’ve been receiving from the lovely people who work there. For the past 10 years, I’ve been greeted by my name, I’m asked how my family is doing, and there is laughter and friendliness that other pharmacies lack. I’ve very much appreciated all pharmacists and pharmacist assistants that work here, but today I want to tell you what Greg has done for me in the last few months.

“My husband recently lost his job due to COVID. With that loss came the loss of our precious health insurance. While I have Medicare, the rest of my family doesn’t have any insurance right now. Greg has worked with us to find medication for my husband and son that we can actually afford. If that wasn't enough, Greg met me at the pharmacy on a Saturday, even though the pharmacy is closed on Saturdays now due to COVID, so I could get my medication on time instead of waiting until Monday. That gesture meant so much to me. It would have been hard for me to be without my medication that weekend.

“I really didn't think Greg could outdo himself with all that he’s already done for us, but I just got back from the pharmacy and I am in tears. I’ve been trying to get estrogen for three weeks now. With the insurance change, I had come in three times to collect the estrogen and was sent away each time with nothing because of this or that. Being without the medication for three weeks is just awful. It was making me sick. Today when I went in to see if things were cleared up, I found out that no, there was still no way my insurance would cover it.

“I was very discouraged, and Greg could see that in my eyes. So he found a resource to help me get my estrogen today. I’m in utter disbelief. Please give this man a raise. Give them all a raise. I will never go to another pharmacy again. They are the absolute best.”

“Everyone needs to be listening to our patients,” says Shelley Egley, system director of patient advocacy. “When we connect with our patients and families and truly hear what matters most to them, we’re able to deliver on extraordinary care.”
