Intermountain to move from Webex and Skype to Microsoft Teams by May

Intermountain is switching from Webex and Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams for all our virtual meetings and instant messaging. The transition will be complete by May, but you’re invited to make the shift now.

Why are we changing? Microsoft Teams offers highly versatile and user-friendly tools that allow for organic communication, interaction, and “teaming.” Providing one platform for business collaboration reduces both cost and application support requirements. As an example, moving remote meetings to Microsoft Teams relieves Intermountain of the need to pay for a license to use Webex. Microsoft Teams doesn’t have an additional cost because it’s part of our Office 365 licensing package.

Here are some common myths about Microsoft Teams:

  1. MYTH: The Team’s meeting limit is 100 people. FACT: The Team’s limit is 300 people.
  2. MYTH: You can’t invite people from outside the organization. FACT: Yes, you can. Just use their email address in the invitation.
  3. MYTH: Microsoft Teams costs people outside of Intermountain money to use. FACT: The Teams client is available from Microsoft for free.

Please share your experiences with Microsoft Team’s benefits and functionality to help others prepare for the transition. If you haven’t already made the transition within your team, you can access resources to help you make this change on the Teams Adoption website.
