After an extensive national search, Intermountain has selected Tiffany Capeles for the inaugural role of chief equity officer. She’ll drive Intermountain’s strategy to expand health equity, diversity, and inclusion for caregivers, patients, and communities. She’ll start her new role on April 11.

“Tiffany’s informed approach and experience align well with our four pillars as we advance equity for our patients, members, caregivers, and communities,” says Mikelle Moore, senior vice president and chief Community Health officer. “She’ll provide visionary leadership that will continue our focus on equity as a social determinant of health to help people live the healthiest lives possible  .”

Tiffany will also partner closely with the Office of Equity and Inclusion to refine the caregiver equity strategy. Her role will have a specific focus on the caregiver environments and creating both equity and belonging in the workplace.

“As we continue to refine the caregiver experience at Intermountain, fostering a culture of belonging where caregivers can feel safe and supported to bring their most authentic selves to work is critical,” says Heather Brace, senior vice president and chief people officer.  “It’s foundational for equity work moving forward. I’m excited for Tiffany's leadership in this area as she brings her best practices and learnings to our teams.”

Tiffany comes to Intermountain from CHRISTUS Health, an international health system headquartered in Texas, where she was the system director of health equity, diversity, and inclusion. In this role, she led enterprise-wide efforts to improve patients’ health outcomes and directed strategy for diversity and inclusion within the organization. Her work at CHRISTUS led to the organization receiving numerous national awards, designations, and recognition in the areas of health equity, diversity, and inclusion.

In 2021, Tiffany earned the Career Achievement Award from the National Association of Latino Healthcare Executives, and in 2020, was named as one of the Top 25 emerging leaders by Modern Healthcare and received the 2019 Tomorrow’s Leaders Award by the Catholic Healthcare Association.

Before joining CHRISTUS Health, Tiffany served in multiple roles at Children’s Health, in Texas, and at Adventist HealthCare, in Maryland, where she pioneered sustainable change for marginalized populations, internally and externally. She is active in communities she serves, both within healthcare and as a former city commissioner in Texas.

“I’m excited about this transition to the Mountain West region of the United States and serving with an organization I have long admired for its innovation in healthcare,” Tiffany says.

Intermountain continues to build on the foundational commitment to transform organizational culture and promote equity for all, especially those historically and economically disenfranchised. Tiffany will be working closely to align the organization’s equity strategy. She’ll have dual reporting to Mikelle and Heather.

“I’m both humbled and honored to join a leadership team and organization that’s committed to advancing the equity agenda in meaningful ways and will impact its communities for generations to come,” says Tiffany.

Tiffany earned her Master of Business Administration in finance from Hood College in Maryland and completed her undergraduate studies in healthcare administration at Kent State University in Ohio. Tiffany will be relocating to the Salt Lake City area with her family. In her free time, she enjoys outdoor activities, volunteering, and learning about different cultures.
