Designated veteran parking added to two hospitals with more to follow

Just in time for Memorial Day, McKay-Dee Hospital and Layton Hospital have added Veteran/Active Military designated parking spaces to their facilities. The signs are a result of work done by the Military Caregiver Resource Group

“When I was first contacted about adding the veteran parking signs, I spoke with our hospital administrator Judy Williamson and she was very excited about the idea,” says Ryan Grant, facilities manager at Layton Hospital. “With the close vicinity of Hill Air Force Base to Layton Hospital, we thought it would be a great opportunity to show our appreciation and honor those who serve and have served in the armed forces in our community.”

“Designating parking for veterans and active service members is a way of honoring them,” says Rudy Chavez, a senior application and systems tech analyst, who is a former staff sergeant for the U.S. Army and co-chair of the Military CRG. “It makes me feel good that the company I work for honors, loves, and supports the veterans who work here and come here for care. It’s important that Intermountain recognizes their service and sacrifices.”

Facility managers received a proposal to add veteran parking signs. They’ll assess their parking availability and the needs of clinical staff and the community before deciding to designate parking for veterans. Veteran parking stalls may not make sense at all Intermountain facilities, but more facilities will likely add stalls in the future.

“This is definitely fulfilling,” says Jim Lamadrid, information systems risk program manager and co-chair of the Military CRG.
