Checking in about Check-Ins: Document your Check-In conversations in Workday

Check-In

After you participate in a Check-In conversation with your leader or member of your department’s leadership team, you’re expected to document the conversation in Workday. Check-Ins is Intermountain’s approach to performance management—a timely, future-focused, open dialogue conversation where leaders and caregivers connect and discuss contributions to team results and desired growth opportunities.

Why do I have to document the conversation in Workday?

  • Check-Ins are designed for you to have more accountability in driving your career at Intermountain as you openly discuss your contributions, growth and development, and opportunities with your leader. Tracking the Check-In conversations will help create continuity between Check-Ins quarter to quarter, foster transparency between you and your leader, and highlight what’s important to you.
  • You can summarize your conversation by noting any action items, accomplishments, project work, performance concerns, feedback, or anything you’d like to track over time. If development items were discussed, you can add that information in the Development Items area of Workday.
  • Leaders can add their notes to the Check-In you created in Workday so all perspectives are captured.
  • You can schedule and create a Check-In in Workday ahead of time to help you and your leader start preparing for a meaningful discussion.
  • You can refer to past Check-Ins to track your progress and growth over the year.

Each caregiver should be meeting with their leader at least once a quarter for a Check-In, meaning a caregiver should have at least one Check-In documented in Workday each quarter. To record a Check-In conversation, click on the Talent and Performance application on the main Workday page and select My Check-Ins, then create Check-In. This functionality is also available in the mobile Workday app.
