“Dr. Tawney is a godsend,” patient says

Intermountain pulmonologist Suresh Tawney, MD, at the La Canada Clinic in Las Vegas specializes in helping patients with respiratory diseases like COPD, and it’s making a difference. One of his patients, Bonnie Delacore, recently expressed her gratitude for the impact Dr. Tawney’s care has had on her life.

“I would struggle with going up the stairs or doing any daily activity,” Bonnie says. “Ever since my visit with Dr. Tawney, I’ve been walking around the house doing my usual household chores without any issues. I’m active in my garden and now it takes me ten minutes to mow my lawn compared to one hour.”

Dr. Tawney’s approach to patient care involves connecting with his patients so he can get to know them. Often while taking a patient’s history, he’ll discover what has contributed to the development of COPD, like smoking or exposure to industrial chemicals.

He also focuses on social issues that impact his patients’ ability to receive care. One patient had transportation issues and couldn’t easily get food, so Dr. Tawney referred him to a social worker who could connect the patient to the resources he required. Another patient told him she couldn’t quit smoking because she was stressed out because of the death of her husband and another ongoing family crisis.

“Unless you develop a working relationship with patients, you won’t know what’s going on in their lives that can contribute to their inability to meet their health goals,” he says.

Bonnie affirms his approach makes a difference. “Ever since I visited Dr. Tawney, my life has made a complete 180,” she says. “Dr. Tawney is a godsend.”
