EAP training shares tips to decompress and disconnect from work for greater well-being

Intermountain’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is now offering Disconnect from Work, a new training to help caregivers and teams leave work at work. The Intermountain WorkMed team in St. George recently took the training and say it made a huge difference.

“The ability to disconnect from work is not so easy for some of us, especially in clinical roles,” says Cindy Miller, WorkMed practice manager. “The information shared and tools we received from the training were impactful and easy to integrate. It helps each of us do a better job at disconnecting.”

Now Cindy’s team spends some time every Monday during huddle sharing what they did to free their minds from work.

“It has become a Monday morning habit to discuss what we are choosing to do that weekend to rest our minds from the stresses and pressures of our everyday work life,” says Cindy. “We always talk about the ability we have to consciously choose to do things that engage our minds and change our focus.”

Cindy and her team plan to continue to make this a priority so they can be their best at work and at home.

“Being able to disengage, clear our minds of work-related stressors, and decompress are critical for our well-being,” says Cindy.

“We partner as a team in a commitment to self-care; it’s what I like to call, ‘accountability partners’ to support each other. We feel healthier, more productive, and more engaged.”
