Intermountain increasing minimum wage to $15 per hour, raising pay for 15,000 caregivers

After careful analysis of caregiver pay and market conditions—and after listening to caregiver feedback—Intermountain leaders are increasing our minimum wage to $15 an hour starting the week of September 19.

Approximately 15,000 caregivers will see an increase to their pay. About 2,200 caregivers whose current wage is less than $15 an hour will receive an increase up to the new minimum or more. Another 12,800 caregivers across 250 jobs will see a pay increase to ensure their wage is competitive and fair by factoring in the new minimum threshold and years of experience. Most increases will range between 3% and 7% and will benefit caregivers in Utah, Idaho, and Nevada.

“The job market for healthcare roles and beyond have dramatically change in the last two years,” says Heather Brace, senior vice president and chief people officer. “This adjustment is our commitment to ensure we’re paying caregivers—both current and future—fairly and at market. The adjustment reflects our commitment to offering competitive pay so that people can provide for their personal and family needs while helping Intermountain attract and retain the very best talent to carry out our mission.”

The new market adjustment increases will be effective beginning September 19, which is the beginning of pay period 20. Those who receive an increase will see the increase in their October 8 paycheck. Caregivers in the following pay grades will receive a market adjustment. These pay grades represent clinical and non-clinical service roles.

  • D.8
  • K.5-K.10; KF.5, KF.6, KF.8, KF.16
  • N.8-N.9; NR.7, NR.10
  • O.6-O.10; OR.7, OB.2
  • P.6; PF.7
  • SN.5-SN.11
  • T.6-T.10

How do I know if I’m eligible for an increase and if so, how much? Beginning Monday, August 30, leaders can log in to Workday to view which caregivers on their team will receive a market adjustment and how much they’ll receive. Increase amounts will vary depending on caregivers’ current pay and where each caregiver will be after the adjustment. Caregivers already paid close to what the market analysis says will receive a smaller amount, whereas caregivers lower in pay may receive a larger amount.

You can also review your pay grade by logging in to Workday, clicking Personal Information, selecting About Me, and then Compensation.

You may wonder why your job isn’t eligible for this increase. Intermountain provides all jobs with a market increase every year at annual increase time. All caregivers will receive another pay increase during July 2022’s annual increases. In most situations, these annual market adjustments to each job are sufficient to maintain market competitive wages.

Heather says: “We adjusted all jobs in April 2021. However, from time to time, significant changes in the market for certain jobs, or a group of jobs, may occur. We then adjust to address the new market conditions. For example, we raised the minimum wage to $13 an hour a few years ago. In June 2021, we did a market adjustment for nurse roles and nursing support roles. What we’re doing now is just another example of this practice.”

The next pay increase for all caregivers will be in July 2022.
