SelectHealth is offering $100 to some members to get vaccinated

Beginning August 26, some SelectHealth insurance members in Utah who haven’t been previously vaccinated, who meet eligibility criteria, and who complete either one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine or two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines will receive a $100 incentive. This incentive applies to members age 12 or older who haven’t received any doses of the COVID-19 vaccine as of today. The incentive program will run through December 31, 2021.

Only 55% of people in Utah have gotten one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and only 48% are fully vaccinated. This new incentive is designed to urge people in our communities to get the vaccine—a safe and effective way to protect against COVID-19 and to help slow the spread.

“We support SelectHealth’s bold move to encourage their members to get the COVID-19 vaccine,” says Heather Brace, senior vice president and chief people officer. “This program supports stopping the spread of COVID-19 in our communities, which will, ultimately, help our caregivers who care for people in our facilities. Many caregivers have seen firsthand and felt the impact of this disease and know COVID-19 vaccines are the best tools we have to stop the spread and protect ourselves and each other.”

Intermountain caregivers and their dependents aren’t eligible for the incentive. “A large majority of our caregivers are already fully vaccinated,” Heather says. “Because the incentive is for people who haven’t received the vaccine (one or both doses), and 25 percent of caregivers aren’t members of an Intermountain-sponsored SelectHealth insurance plan, we didn’t believe participating in the incentive program was an equitable decision for our caregivers. While we know some may be disappointed by this, we hope caregivers understand why we made this decision.”

While the vaccine isn’t required by Intermountain, it’s strongly supported by the organization and all caregivers are encouraged to get it. You can schedule a COVID-19 vaccine appointment by finding a location near you on vaccines.gov, at the Primary Children’s Pharmacy, or with your primary care provider.
