Caregiver Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine booster clinics are happening now, and your help is needed to staff the clinics

Intermountain is now hosting caregiver vaccine clinics for caregivers who are eligible to receive the third dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine and caregivers who haven’t received the COVID-19 vaccine yet (first or second dose). These vaccine clinics are for caregivers only and appointments are required. Community members and patients who are eligible for a booster dose can receive one by scheduling an appointment with their primary care provider or by visiting vaccines.gov to find a local community vaccination location.

Staffing the COVID-19 vaccine clinics has become an urgent area of need. All available caregivers are needed to help support vaccination efforts—especially caregivers who have a clinical background but now work in a non-clinical role. The need for caregiver vaccine clinics is expected to grow as we gain more access to vaccine supplies. Without adequate staffing, vaccine clinic hours may be adjusted, or clinics may be cancelled.

“There are clinical and non-clinical roles available at the vaccine clinics— a role for everyone,” says Diane Rindlisbacher, executive partner over special projects. “We don’t want to cancel any clinics. We also recognize there’s a lot of work going on around the organization, from other COVID-19 specific roles to regular day-to-day work. Your support in helping staff these clinics is appreciated.”

You can sign up for a vaccine clinic shift in UKG (formerly known as Kronos) or by contacting Ask HR at 801-442-7547 or AskHR@imail.org. You can review the available roles and shifts on the Caregiver Redeployment website. Shifts are broken up into three-or four-hour increments. Training will be provided to caregivers who commit to a shift. Overtime is approved for any non-exempt (hourly) caregivers working these shifts. Professional exempt (salaried) caregivers won’t receive additional compensation. Travel is approved for mileage reimbursement for all COVID-19-related shifts. Shift availability is first come, first serve.

Caregiver vaccine clinics are being offered at the following locations:

  • Alta View Hospital
  • Intermountain Medical Center
  • LDS Hospital
  • Logan Regional Hospital
  • McKay-Dee Hospital
  • St. George Regional Hospital
  • Utah Valley Hospital

Last week, caregivers who match the eligibility criteria for the booster received a targeted email with scheduling links. The scheduling links have been temporarily disabled as leaders work to staff the clinics. Please check the scheduling link for a location closest to you on Friday, October 8. Use Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge when scheduling an appointment.

If you’ve already signed up for an appointment and the vaccine clinic’s hours are modified or cancelled, you’ll receive an email notification. Cancellations for next day appointments will be made by 9 p.m. each night and the notice will be sent to the email you used to sign up for a clinic (personal or work). Leaders in each geography will also be notified of any changes. New appointments will be added weekly as Intermountain manages vaccine supply, demand, and staffing. Please remember to cancel your scheduled appointment if you’re unable to attend so another caregiver can sign up.

Flu shots and the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine will be given at separate clinics. The Employee Health team is evaluating the ability to run a flu clinic and a COVID-19 vaccine clinic at the same time. For now, you’ll need to attend a flu shot clinic to receive your flu shot, and a caregiver COVID-19 vaccine clinic to receive the Pfizer booster dose. Learn more about flu shot clinics.

Caregivers who received the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine aren’t eligible for a booster vaccine at this time. Should the FDA approve a booster for Moderna or Johnson & Johnson, Intermountain will host booster vaccine clinics for those eligible caregivers.

Please contact Ask HR at 801-442-7547 or askhr@imail.org to learn more. Don’t call if all appointments are full or if you receive this message: “We aren't offering services through the booking page right now. Please contact us directly or check back here later.”
