Two cybersecurity threats and what you need to know about them

A recent ransomware attack on UKG’s (Kronos) Kronos Private Cloud has been highly publicized in the media. The attack affected UKG’s Kronos Private Cloud services only. At Intermountain, we use an on-premises version—meaning we house the software and data in our data center rather than in the cloud. As a result, Intermountain hasn’t been affected by this attack. However, caregivers who work or study at other organizations using the Kronos Private Cloud services are advised to change their password at that organization as well as their Intermountain password.

Another cyber threat that’s been in the news is a vulnerability in some operating systems that allows a hacker to take control of a vulnerable device. This vulnerability, known as LOG4J, has potential to impact millions of devices across the globe. Intermountain has initiated our large-scale response plan to address the issue and protect our data and systems. The cybersecurity team recommends keeping your personal devices updated with the most current security patches provided by the vendor of your device.

You may receive information about this vulnerability from vendors. That information needs to be coordinated through the Cybersecurity team. If you receive a communication from a vendor forward it to Cybersecurity@imail.org.
