In Sindy’s words, “Both women [in this photo] would not be here today, if not for the care we received at Intermountain.”

Sindy Chu has deep, unexpected connections to Intermountain’s extraordinary healthcare.

Although she now lives in Southern California, thirty years ago Sindy visited Salt Lake City with her mother, Hsueh “Susan” Huang. While touring the area, the two Taiwanese women were struck by a vehicle, and Hsueh was transported immediately to LDS Hospital—where the Shock/Trauma team saved her life. After a great deal of physical therapy and time to heal, Sindy’s mom returned home to her native Taiwan.

Three decades later, Sindy let us know her mother has never forgotten Intermountain’s amazing care and treatment. From across the Pacific Ocean in Taiwan and with Sindy’s help, Hsueh tracked down the IMC Shock/Trauma team to donate $30,000 to the hospital, with each $1,000 representing another year she has survived since her accident. In Hsueh’s words, “Money has no impact unless you use it to help others.”

At 90 years old, Hsueh shares her philosophy for a meaningful life: “So good to be alive! Live and learn; you are never too old to learn. Be curious and grateful for every day.”
