Caregivers from the Intermountain Urology Institute demonstrating safety

A medical assistant at the Intermountain Urology Institute was one of several caregivers recognized for submitted a picture in a National Patient Safety Awareness Week photo contest conducted by Intermountain recently.

Caregivers were invited to participate in the contest and many teams submitted images demonstrating safety. The top themes seen in submissions were teamwork, utilizing equipment, following policy, creating visual reminders, and following best practices for infection prevention. Here are two examples:

Safety SB 2

Heber Valley Hospital caregivers

Submitted by Judy Ata, a medical assistant at the Intermountain Urology Institute (pictured above): “Our team keeps patients safe during their BCG treatments for bladder cancer by wearing proper PPE and by disinfecting the room after each patient. This prevents the transmission of hazardous substances to us and our patients.”

Submitted by Dana Dow, RN, a nurse educator at Heber Valley Hospital (pictured left): “We keep our patients safe by practicing using our lifts when it’s been a while since we’ve used them. We like to do this in a realistic and hands-on way with a mannequin. Then when lifts are required with real patients, we all feel more comfortable and confident. During our practice, we made sure we could get a patient from their bed all the way into the bathroom and onto the toilet.”

This fun video shows all the safety photos submitted.
