Dialysis patient surprises fellow patients caregivers with warming gift

Bethany LaDuke of Richfield recently surprised fellow patients and caregivers at Sevier Valley Dialysis with hand-sewn minky fabric blankets.

“When I started dialysis, the blankets weren’t quite big enough to keep me warm,” she says. “So, I made myself a blanket to take to dialysis.”

Then Bethany thought other dialysis patients might also appreciate a blanket upgrade.

“I wanted everybody to have a blanket they could use at dialysis to keep them warm,” she says.

Bethany got right to work in January sewing blankets using scraps from blankets she makes professionally for a company in Spanish Fork.

“I collected a lot of pieces of fabric and just started designing blankets,” she says.

The fronts of the blankets were made using leftover material, and Bethany purchased the fabric for the backsides herself.

After a few months of work, Bethany was able to deliver 30 blankets for patients and another seven for the Sevier Valley Dialysis caregivers last month.

“I just thought I’d do it,” Bethany says. “I don’t do things like this very often, but this was something I could do.”
