Twenty-nine individual caregivers and three teams were recently named 2021 LiVe Well Heroes. LiVe Well Heroes are caregivers who demonstrate their commitment to living well through healthy choices and actions. The winning caregivers were nominated by their peers because of their LiVe Well efforts in 2021.

Heather Brace, Intermountain chief people officer, and SelectHealth CEO Marti Lolli congratulated each award recipient at an awards banquet last month and thanked them for helping to promote and further Intermountain’s mission.

“I remember when LiVe Well was first launched in 2012, with the goal of helping caregivers adopt and practice healthy behaviors that move them toward a state of optimal life balance,” Heather said. “It’s been exciting to watch the program evolve over the years but at its core remains all about caregivers who are committed to improving their health in one of the five dimensions of well-being. People are watching you, and your example is helping create a culture of wellness not only at Intermountain but in your families, with friends, and in your community at home and at work.”

2021’s LiVe Well Heroes include the ICU team at American Fork Hospital, which found ways to LiVe Well despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Team members each downloaded the Virgin Pulse mobile app and kept track of their steps and other health measures, pushing each other to improve.

“We found joy in racing each other around the nurses’ station or even just drinking an extra glass of water through the day,” says Adrianna Watson, RN, a shared leader in the ICU. “As we were able to encourage each other, we encouraged ourselves, and our world got a little bit brighter. In just six months using this tool, our team showed in a survey that the overall health of our work environment had improved by at least 15%. This included our communication with each other, our ability to collaborate, our ability to make decisions as a team, and our ability to recognize each other for hard work in a meaningful way.”

Adrianna says team members started supporting each other more and helping each other, which had a positive impact on their relationships and morale.

“Because we were committed to living well together, our ability to help our patients significantly improved and our team thrived,” she says. “Our efforts as a team to LiVe Well and encourage each other through a challenging time taught each of us something precious.”
