Identifying development items during Check-Ins can help you achieve your career goals

Development SC

All caregivers are asked to select and enter at least one development item in Workday annually. Development items are activities, large or small, that you can complete to help you achieve your career goals. As you consider your own potential development items, try to identify specific activities you can achieve in a reasonable time frame and that will clearly define your parameters of success.

Here are some examples of what you can do:

  • Improve your written communication skills.
  • Find a mentor.
  • Take a leadership course.
  • Lead a project.
  • Conduct huddle once a week to practice presenting.
  • Read one self-help book a month.

Then, during your Check-In with your leader this quarter, take some time during the conversation to discuss your development item(s). Here are some tips:

  • As you prepare for your Check-In, review your current development items. Are you on track?
  • Think of additional growth-related goals or recent accomplishments that you could discuss with your leader and document after your Check-In.
  • Immediately document your Check-In and development items in Workday after your Check-In meeting while thoughts are top of mind. Entering development items in Workday can help you to celebrate development wins, serve as documented record of things you are working on, and act as a record of accomplishments and experiences you want to highlight as you grow in your career.
  • Take time between Check-Ins to focus on your development items and complete any follow-up.
