Virgin Valley Clinic exemplifies collaboration in Desert Region

Intermountain’s Virgin Valley MyGeneration Senior Clinic in Mesquite, Nevada, sits in a unique position: its geographic location near the Nevada-Utah state line is incredibly conducive for collaboration across the newly created Desert Region.

Misty Pierce, Virgin Valley Clinic practice manager, says providers from St. George often come to the clinic to assist with services like heart care. The providers use the clinic’s resources in delivering care, including performing echocardiograms. The Nevada-based providers take advantage of the opportunity to speak with Utah-based clinicians regularly to collaborate on patient care.

“It’s really nice because many of our patients benefit from cardiology services, and having those specialists where the providers can talk to them directly is a great benefit,” Misty says. “They can fill them in and maybe get updates on our patients. It works out really well.”

The clinic has limited space, but construction is planned to give the Utah-based specialists their own space there. This will allow for potentially more southwest Utah specialists to provide care for patients in person at the clinic.

Misty says she anticipates the collaboration between Utah and Nevada providers to only grow as the town and region does.

“I think we’re in a great position here in Mesquite geographically to coordinate services with Las Vegas and Utah,” she says. “The town of Mesquite is growing. The need for services will need to grow. The more we can do to bring providers in from Las Vegas and Utah, the more we can do for patients.”
