Intermountain clinical and operational leaders, fellow caregivers, community partners and children eager to learn about the healthcare profession all gathered recently at DISCOVERY Children’s Museum in Las Vegas to unveil its new Intermountain-sponsored exhibit.

“Children and families will be able to learn about healthcare in a comfortable and fun environment while taking on the role of a patient or healthcare provider,” says Paul Krakovitz, MD, Desert Region president. “This exhibit creates numerous ways for children to develop and grow to understand the importance of healthcare while giving them a window to various careers in the healthcare field.”

The exhibit invites children and their families to learn while playing on a large replica of the classic Operation game, a hands-on baby doll nursery, a fun display that simulates X-ray scans, and more.

The museum’s ECO CITY gallery offers children an opportunity to find out about various professions within several exhibits sponsored by partner companies and organizations.

“Part of DISCOVERY Children’s Museum’s mission is to provide a vibrant and engaging experience through exhibits and programs that encourage a love of lifelong learning,” says Melissa Kaiser, CEO of DISCOVERY Children’s Museum. “We’re so excited to partner with Intermountain Healthcare on our new exhibit in ECO CITY that will inspire our future healthcare heroes.”

About 47% of healthcare workers across the U.S. plan to leave the industry by 2025, according to a recent survey conducted by Elsevier Health.

“We already need more physicians, nurses, and healthcare professionals in our state, and this need will just increase as our communities continue to grow,” says Intermountain’s Taryn Bragg, MD, the only board-certified, full-time pediatric neurosurgeon in Nevada. “We hope this exhibit inspires children to explore pursuing careers in healthcare in the future.”

“A big thank you to the museum for allowing Intermountain to promote healthcare jobs and healthcare education. Being surrounded by so many curious minds was a blast,” Dr. Krakovitz says. “While our exhibit truly is a must-see, the children who participated really were the ones who stole the show. Their interest in healthcare should inspire all of us every day. After the news conference, myself and other leaders in attendance took some time to explore the exhibit with the kids who were there, and it was so fun to explain various healthcare devices and terminology to their inquiring minds.”
