Intermountain matches your volunteering impact with new iAct program

Volunteers SC

Intermountain is launching its first-ever volunteer impact match program for caregivers. The program, called iAct, is designed as a partnership between Human Resources and Community Health to support the community causes you care about, as well as encourage more caregivers to get involved, give back, and make a difference in the communities we serve.

“Over the years, we’ve been asked about an official work-sponsored volunteer program to help caregivers find ways to give back,” says Heather Brace, chief people officer. “Our caregivers are already involved in our communities. The iAct program is our way of showing what matters to you also matters to us.”

iAct is a charitable donation matching program for local organizations and causes that align with our mission and health priorities. For every volunteer hour you log with an approved organization, you’ll receive 16 community cash points. Each community cash point is equivalent to $1. The community cash you earn will be donated to a qualifying eligible non-profit that you choose.

Intermountain’s goal is to donate $2 million a year through the iAct program to eligible community organizations and causes.

“This program doubles the positive impact to organizations because of the time you spend volunteering and the money they’ll receive from Intermountain,” says Emily Stirling, caregiver social well-being director. “If every caregiver volunteered three hours throughout the year, we’d reach our goal. Working alongside your colleagues outside of work toward a common cause also helps strengthen friendships, trust, and a sense of belonging — all important elements of our workplace culture.”

iAct is currently only available to caregivers in the Canyons and Desert regions (full-time, part-time, PRN, and per diem caregivers). The program will be expanded to the Peaks Region in spring 2023.

Other highlights of the iAct volunteer program:

  1. There’s an app. Signing up for volunteer activities, program guidance, volunteer hour reporting, and your community cash designation will be hosted by our third-party partner, Benevity. To download their app, visit your phone’s app store and search “Benevity.” Use these instructions to get started. You’ll need to use PingID to log in. Don’t want to use your phone? You can also access the platform online, too.
  2. No extra tracking required. Once you sign up for a volunteer opportunity through the Benevity app, you’re in. Show up to the location and give your time. At the conclusion of volunteer service, you’ll be awarded those community cash points for the hours you worked. Already volunteering for an organization? That’s great. Benevity offers a manual tracking option so you can capture those hours and earn points. You can input all the hours you’ve volunteered so far in 2022 for credit.
  3. Unlimited number of hours. There’s no limit on the number of hours you can volunteer. Each caregiver can receive up to 320 points in community cash per calendar year. The caregiver with the most volunteer hours at the end of the year will receive a $250 grand prize. All caregivers with time tracked in Benevity will also be entered into a drawing for additional prizes.
  4. It’s work-approved. Intermountain will begin hosting unique volunteer activities across our organization, so it will be easy for you to participate. You can also volunteer during work hours if it’s part of a team activity sponsored by your leader. Otherwise, volunteering must be conducted outside of work hours.
  5. It will evolve. iAct will eventually host medical missions for caregivers. Watch the Caregiver Brief for more information.

“Intermountain’s mission is to help people live the healthiest lives possible,” says Mikelle Moore, chief community health officer. “While we do a lot to fulfill our mission through direct patient care, iAct allows caregivers to take it further, outside of our facilities. We’re excited to see what impact our caregivers will make year after year in our communities.”
