Intermountain will stay protected if caregivers work together and adopt cyber safety as part of our culture.

Online safety doesn’t have to be difficult. But with human error at the core of cyberattacks, it takes your knowledge and awareness to stay safe. Intermountain will stay protected if caregivers work together and adopt cyber safety as part of our culture. You can help protect Intermountain from cyberattacks by being informed and engaged in our cybersecurity culture, both in the office and at home.

“Cyber safety is patient safety,” says Erik Decker, vice president and chief information security officer. “We care for our patients in a digital environment. The accuracy, reliability, and resiliency of this environment directly relates to our ability to provide safe care to our patients. You can be part of the cyber army. Take a moment and be sure to report any suspicious activities, be it a phishing email, a computer acting funny, or anything else that looks strange. You can practice cyber safety by reporting it to cybersecurity@imail.org.”

Intermountain takes cybersecurity very seriously, and we’re participating in Cybersecurity Awareness Month throughout October. Many activities will focus on how security best practices can protect our organization and healthcare in general. Please join our webinar series and read our weekly tips to learn more. From advice on avoiding phishing, to an analysis of “Deep Fakes,” there’s plenty of helpful information for you to explore. Learn more about these activities.

October is a great month to make sure your home devices are also in tip-top shape. Here are a few recommendations for cleaning up your devices this fall:

  • Make sure your antivirus software is up to date.
  • Back up your files—pictures, documents, etc.
  • Apply all approved operating system updates.
  • Double check your social media settings.

If you have questions about Cybersecurity Awareness Month or cybersecurity in general, please email cybersecurity@imail.org.
