September's overall KPI percentage improved to 111%

Our overall system attainment as of September 30 is 111%, according to Intermountain’s Monthly Performance Dashboard for September. We’re only 2% below where we were at this time last year and 11% above where we were in September 2020.

“Our organization continues to demonstrate incremental improvement each month in achieving our KPIs and goals thanks to every single one of you,” says Rob Allen, chief operating officer. “Each effort made — big or small — can make a difference for our patients, caregivers, and the organization.”

One of the highlights of September’s performance includes a significant increase in our hospital quality scores. Only nine of our hospitals are eligible for the Vizient Quality and Accountability Study Ranking, which drives the hospital quality scores. Our overall performance improved from the 88th to the 89th percentile, with six of our hospitals achieving five-star ratings and the remaining three hospitals achieving four-star ratings

Additionally, the Ease of Scheduling Medical Group Appointments KPI reached entry goal for the first time this year thanks to dedicated workstreams in operations, scheduling, customer service, and Digital Transformation Services (DTS).

The caregiver incentive plan encourages caregivers to take ownership in driving team and department success and rewards caregivers monetarily for accountability and engagement in performance improvement in key priorities for the organization. The higher the overall KPI percentage achieved, the larger the incentive payment caregivers in the Canyons and Desert regions will receive next spring. For example, the 2022 caregiver incentive payout for 111% achievement is $499.50 for full-time caregivers and $249.75 for part-time caregivers. Work is underway to align the caregiver incentive plans across the system in 2023.

Below are several other actions to help influence KPI progress. You can find more in the Get to Know Our 2022 KPIs guide. During an upcoming Check-In or team meeting, talk to your leader about which actions resonate with you and how you can implement them in your day-to-day workRemember, actions you take every day toward achieving your team and department goals influences system progress.

  • Make efforts to improve the patient experience each day. For the second month this year, we reached our target goal for the likelihood to recommend KPI. Patient experience opportunities continue to be a leading priority for the organization. Listening to patients' needs is critical. Please speak up and escalate experience concerns. Recognize and appreciate each other for demonstrating compassionate connections and service to our patients. For this month’s Compassionate Connections, Intermountain is focusing on the foundational concept of respect. What does being respected feel like as a caregiver? How do you show respect to patients, visitors, or fellow caregivers? You’re invited to reflect on why respect is so important.

  • Review caregiver safety tactics for the winter months ahead. With the changing season, please review basic safety practices to stay safe this winter, including wearing snow-safe shoes, walking on cleared paths, and watching for slippery areas — like ice or wet facility entrances. This will help with the steady progress of reduced caregiver injuries for our caregiver safety KPI.
  • Start thinking about next year and the experience you want to have on your team. More than 49,000 caregivers participated in this year’s Caregiver Experience Survey and shared their voice. Your leader should have shared your team’s results with you already and should schedule an action-planning meeting with your team. During action planning, you’ll discuss improvements or opportunities you’d like your team to focus on in 2023, or things happening right now that you’d like to continue. Think about these questions and be ready to share your answers to the following questions: What experiences matter most to you? What can we do to continue making Intermountain a model place to work, learn, and grow? What would help you balance work and other responsibilities?
