The results of the 2022 Caregiver Experience Survey are in.

The 2022 Caregiver Experience Survey results are in. The results represent 80% of Intermountain’s caregivers — more than 49,000 people — across all three regions who completed the survey and is the highest participation rate we’ve seen with a survey.

Intermountain’s 2022 overall engagement score is 4.12, which is in the 61st percentile nationally. This is the fifth year we’ve improved as an organization — even in the midst of change and a pandemic — and the score is up significantly from last year’s score of 4.03. About 59% of our teams are considered Team Index I teams, meaning they exceeded this year’s Key Performance Indicator (KPI) goal. A greater number of healthy teams indicates our organization is healthier.

“The improvements made year over year demonstrate incredible work by strong local leadership and an ongoing, dedicated focus to improve our work environments by teams across the organization,” says Heather Brace, chief people officer. “Caregivers are at the center of what we do, and we can’t achieve our mission without you. The experience you have at work matters and the open and honest feedback you share — whether it’s in a survey or through your leader — helps drive the experience forward.”

The Salt Lake Tribune recently named Intermountain a “Top Workplace for 2022” and these experience survey results are another indicator of positive things going on at Intermountain. The world continues to evolve, and expectations for employers have never been greater. There were 5,000 of our caregivers who participated in the Tribune’s Top Workplace survey process and shared why Intermountain should — or shouldn’t — be considered for the award.

“Being named a Top Workplace for 2022 is a testament of our intentional focus to invest in our people on our journey to be the model healthcare system in the Intermountain West,” Heather says. “And in that same breath, we know there are daily struggles throughout Intermountain — some in our control, some out of our control. There’s still work to do, and we’re committed to it.”

Some of the improvement opportunities highlighted in the Caregiver Experience Survey results include continuing to improve the experience for our physicians and advanced practice providers (APPs) and focusing on overall caregiver well-being. We also must continue integrating two strong organizations into one and aligning our organization across the three regions to cultivate a consistent, positive experience for our caregivers and ultimately, our patients.

Your leader has your team’s results and will be sharing them with you. Part of the process will include discussions to identify areas from the survey that your team would like to work on. Your voice and ideas in this process are important to help enhance your experience and engagement. As you’re participating in these conversations, think about these questions and be ready to share your answers to questions like: What experiences matter most to you? What can we do to continue making Intermountain a model place to work, learn, and grow? What would help you balance work and other responsibilities? This is your opportunity to own engagement, help remove barriers, and problem solve with your team.
