Each cancer patient needs a customized treatment plan, which is why The McKay-Dee Hospital Cancer Center uses a patient-centered, team approach. This may involve several different kinds of treatment. Depending on the size, stage, type and location of cancer, an individual may need surgery, which is usually done before starting chemotherapy or radiation. Breast Cancer patients, though, sometimes have surgery before other treatment options.
If you have any questions about your surgery or how it fits with the rest of your treatment, a member of your treatment team will be able to answer your questions and direct you through the process. After your cancer surgery, it’s crucial to follow post-surgical instructions and to meet with a dietician. A surgery is only successful if you recover. Adhere to the nutritional guidelines and post-surgical instructions your doctor gives you. The Cancer Center offers support services to help you take care of yourself at home. If you need assistance, ask or talk to one of our support staff.
