HealthInsight names Dixie Regional Quality Award Winner

Representatives of HealthInsight presented Dixie Regional Medical Center with the 2009 HealthInsight Quality Award at the Utah Hospital Association Fall Leadership Conference held last month in Park City. Dixie Regional is the only hospital in Utah and Nevada to receive this award for the past three consecutive years.

“HealthInsight is pleased to recognize Dixie Regional for its dedication and achievements in improving patient care,” said Marc Bennett, President and CEO of HealthInsight. The HealthInsight Quality Award program was launched in September of 2004 to promote transparency in health care.

The HealthInsight Quality Award recognizes hospitals that achieve high levels of performance on care related to publicly reported quality measures in four significant areas of care. Heart attack measures include: aspirin given at arrival, aspirin prescribed at discharge, ACE inhibitor given for left ventricular systolic dysfunction, beta blocker given at arrival, and beta blocker prescribed at discharge. Heart failure measures include: left ventricular function assessment and ACE inhibitor given for left ventricular systolic dysfunction. Pneumonia measures include: initial antibiotic received within 4 hours of hospital arrival, oxygenation assessment, and pneumococcal vaccination status. Surgical infection prevention measures included: preventative antibiotic(s) given one hour before incision, appropriate preventative antibiotic for surgery, preventative antibiotic(s) stopped within 24 hours after surgery, treatment to prevent blood clots within 24 hours before or after surgery, and doctor ordered treatments to prevent blood clots. The clinical topics measured for the awards have been designated as national healthcare priorities by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
