Visitor Guidelines Revised

Visitor guidelines to help protect against H1N1 exposure in Intermountain's hospitals have been changed slightly, in response to the decrease in H1N1 activity in Utah. Please check with your local hospital for specific restrictions or any changes, prior to visiting. Here are the new visitor guidelines for Intermountain hospitals:

  • No sick visitors. People are encouraged to go home if they have a fever, cough, sore throat, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.
  • Visitors under age 14 are not allowed in ICUs, transplant areas, and women/newborn units, in most Intermountain hospitals.
  • Only two visitors per patient are allowed in ICUs and transplant units. Additional restrictions may be implemented in different units at Intermountain's hospitals.
  • Emergency departments will continue to allow only two visitors per patient, which is their normal visitor policy. Visitors under age 14 are allowed.
  • Patients should wear masks if they have flu or cold symptoms.
  • Everyone should wash their hands frequently with soap and water or use hand sanitizer. Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your sleeve.
  • Additional restrictions may be implemented in different units at Intermountain hospitals, based on the patient populations they serve.

Tighter visitor guidelines could be reinstated. Intermountain Healthcare and public health leaders will continue to monitor the H1N1 situation—along with cases of seasonal flu and RSV. If the threat of exposure increases, tighter visitor restrictions will be implemented again.
