Heber Valley Medical Center Announces Expansion: Women’s Diagnostic Center

“We’re thrilled that we are moving forward with the addition of the Women’s Diagnostic Center,” comments Barbara Games, Imaging Manager at Heber Valley Medical Center. Just over ten years ago Heber Valley Medical Center opened in this new location to serve the residents of Wasatch County. “We knew when we built this facility that we would be continually expanding to meet the needs of our ever-growing community,” mentions Ezra Segura, hospital administrator. “This expansion is just one more step in helping us meet the healthcare needs of Wasatch County.”

The Women’s Diagnostic Center was designed to cater to the special healthcare needs women and the various stages of life she experiences. The center will house ultrasound, digital mammography, bone densitometry, and ultrasound guided biopsies. All examinations are performed by certified technicians registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the American Registry of Diagnostic Sonography (ARDMS).

“These are valuable services for the women of our community and I want to create an atmosphere of comfort, relaxation and tranquility —” Games states, “an atmosphere where a woman would want to come — where I’d want to come to take care of myself.”

The services offered in the Women’s Diagnostic Center are critical preventative measures a woman can take to ensure her health is at its optimum. “As women,” mentions Games, “we tend to be so busy taking care of everything and everyone else that it is easy to let these small preventative measures slip down the list of things to do.”

Having this center located here in the valley, will hopefully, serve as a reminder to women to take a few minutes to care for themselves. “It is so important for women to take a few minutes out of a day once a year to care for herself. When something happens to you, it does not only impact you, but it impacts your spouse, your children, your colleagues, and many other people,” states Games. “Women’s health is critical and my goal with this center is to make it easy to have these procedures done, in a comfortable atmosphere.”

When a woman has regular mammograms, even the slightest change in breast tissue will be detected much earlier and that is when breast cancer is best curable — when it is detected early.

Other special features of the Women’s Diagnostic Center include:
• Private waiting area for Women’s Diagnostic Center
• Private dressing rooms inside the Women’s Diagnostic Center
• Ultrasound room with direct access to the restroom
• DEXA suite to diagnose osteoporosis

Another exciting service is the addition of DEXA Bone Scan. “A DEXA scan is a critical tool in detecting osteoporosis,” Games states. “It is an enhanced form of x-ray technology that is used to measure bone loss.”

This is one more valuable tool you and your medical professional can use to develop a proactive healthcare approach to good health.

The groundbreaking ceremony will be held on Tuesday, June 29, at 6 in the evening along with a Girl’s Night Out health fair to follow. “This is your community Women’s Center,” mentions Games. “We want to hear what is important to you and we encourage and welcome hearing what you want out of your community hospital. We also look forward to visiting with your during the groundbreaking ceremonies on June 29.
