Intermountain Healthcare Opens New Specialty Center in Sandy

Sandy, Utah (6/14/2010)—Intermountain Healthcare has opened a new surgical center at the north end of the Alta View Hospital campus in Sandy. The Alta View Specialty Center features state-of-the-art operating rooms and endoscopy rooms for outpatient surgeries and endoscopy procedures, and will initially be home to nearly a dozen specialists.

“We’re very excited to provide the area with a new option for these services,” says Linda Leckman, MD, Intermountain Medical Group chief executive officer. “The project has been a team effort, and we’re happy to offer the public a quality, finished product.”

Construction on the nearly 60,000 square-foot facility began in the fall of 2008. Along with the operating rooms and endoscopy center, the finished building includes office space for approximately 25 physicians. Some of the medical specialties that will be housed in the center include: plastic surgery, oculoplastic surgery, general surgery, audiology, ophthalmology, optometry, dermatology, gastrointestinal, orthopedics, and ear, nose and throat.

“This new building comes after years of planning and preparation,” says Becky Kapp, Alta View Hospital administrator. “It represents a part of the continuing efforts to increase the level of service we can provide on the hospital campus.”

The new facility is just one of several enhancements on the Alta View Hospital campus. Last fall the hospital expanded and renovated its Emergency Department to provide faster, more efficient service. The hospital is currently remodeling its Acute Care Unit and Women’s Center, and opened a new Infusion Clinic last fall. The hospital also opened a new Senior Clinic on June 7.

At a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Specialty Center held last week, Alta View Hospital medical staff president and urologist, Richard Labasky, MD, said Alta View’s proud tradition of excellence will carry over to the new building. “The community deserves to know how caring, capable, and committed the staff is. This building is a symbol of that,” he said.

Sandy City Mayor Tom Dolan recalled how many of the physicians at Alta View have already treated his family members — and said to plan on treating the Dolans again. “The last time my wife was in Alta View Hospital, I couldn’t get over how caring the staff was. I’ve never seen better caring or service in anything I’ve dealt with,” said the major. “Thank you so much to Intermountain Healthcare. This is a gorgeous building. I’m sure I’ll get a different kind of view of it in the future.”
