Sunset Clinic expands to bring care closer to home

Construction is now complete on the Intermountain Sunset Clinic’s 10,500-square-foot addition, which more than doubles the building’s footprint. The addition will allow the clinic to add pediatric services and physical therapy/rehabilitation services, as well as expand family practice and InstaCare areas. There is also room to add additional services in the future.

The public is invited to a grand opening of the expanded Sunset Clinic on Thursday, March 3 at 11:30 a.m. The brief ceremony will be followed by refreshments and an open house. Children are welcome, and will be invited to add their painted handprints to the décor of one of the pediatric exam rooms.

Located at 1739 West Sunset Boulevard, the clinic first opened in August of 2007 and has been home to a very successful family practice clinic and “one of the busiest-per-doctor InstaCare facilities in the entire Intermountain system,” says Shawn Kolu, director of Intermountain Medical Group’s Southwest Region.
According to Marty Nygaard, MD, medical director for Intermountain Medical Group’s Southwest Region, the goal in adding pediatric and rehab services at the Sunset location is to “take the services to the patients rather than always having them come to a central location.”

Dr. Nygaard, a pediatrician, will also be moving his practice to the Sunset Clinic. “There are so many young families in that part of the county, we really need pediatric services there,” he says. Although he will be seeing his patients in the new space beginning February 28, Dr. Nygaard will continue to be affiliated with the physicians at Redrock Pediatrics.

Physical therapy and rehabilitation services at the clinic will include outpatient physical therapy and sports medicine rehab to care for the full spectrum of orthopedic and post-surgical conditions.

According to Shawn, the addition also includes room to add six new family practice physicians who will be added one or two at a time over the next few years depending on demand. An additional pediatrician and a few internists may also join the clinic before long. For more information about the grand opening or the clinic, please call 435.251.3629.
