Dr. Charles Sorenson among the 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare

This week Modern Healthcare magazine includes Intermountain's Charles Sorenson, MD, president and CEO, in its annual ranking of the "100 Most Influential People in Healthcare."

Dr. Sorenson was ranked 54 on the ranking, which recognizes men and women in a variety of roles who are considered among the most influential throughout the industry, as chosen by readers of the magazine. Modern Healthcare reported that given the intense debate of the government's role in healthcare, it was no surprise Washington insiders prominently place among the "100 Most Influential." Other CEOs of prominent health systems named to the list include the Mayo Clinic, Geisinger Health System, Kaiser Permanente, and the Cleveland Clinic.

The process asked voters to select five candidates from the ballot of 300 individuals based on more than 414,000 nominations.

The top ten on the list are:

  2. Peter Shumlin, Governor, state of Vermont, Montpelior
  3. Barack Obama, President of the United States, Washington
  4. Donald Berwick, Administrator, CMS, Washington
  5. Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary, HHS, Washington
  6. Newt Gingrich, Founder, Center for Health Transformation, Washington; former House speaker
  7. John Wennberg, Director of the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice, professor of evaluative clinical sciences
  8. William Weldon, Chairman and CEO, Johnson & Johnson, New Brunswick, N.J.
  9. Farzad Mostashari, National coordinator for healthcare information technology, Washington
  10. Therese "Terri" Vaughan, CEO, National Association of Insurance Commissioners Kansas City, Mo.
