Free Prostate Cancer Workshop on Sept. 21

SANDY, UT – A free workshop on what you need to know about prostate cancer will be held on Wednesday, September 21, at 6:30 p.m. in Classroom B at Alta View Hospital, which is located at 9660 South 1300 East in Sandy.

Prostate cancer may be one of the most common cancers in men, but it’s also one of the most treatable cancers when caught early. Come learn more about prostate cancer and what you can do to help prevent this disease from urologist, Richard Labasky, MD.

According to the American Cancer Society, one out of every six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime. Prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer found in men, other than skin cancer. Experts also say that approximately 240,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during 2011.

Prostate cancer is also the second leading cause of death among men with cancer in the United States. Prostate cancer is mostly a slow growing cancer that starts in the gland cells of the prostate. It can often be found early by testing the amount of prostate-specific antigen in your blood and by doing a digital rectal exam.
