Nurse Midwives ACNM Award

Nurse Midwives at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, UtahThe Nurse Midwives at Intermountain Medical Center have been honored as the nation’s outstanding midwifery preceptors, receiving the American College of Nurse-Midwives’ “ National Outstanding Preceptor” award for 2011.

The award honors a program or individual that precepts students who are becoming certified nurse-midwives, demonstrates outstanding leadership and teaching skills, mentors multiple students, and promotes high standards of midwifery education.

The Nurse Midwives located at Intermountain Medical Center’s Women’s Center serve thousands of obstetric, gynecology and primary care patients annually — and assist in the births of roughly 500 babies a year. They’ve helped to train more than 40 nurse-midwife students over the past 20 years from the University of Utah and some from other programs as well. They were nominated for the award by Jane Dyer, PhD, director of the midwifery program at the University of Utah.

“This is an extreme honor to be chosen from countless deserving applicants throughout the United States and recognized for our work with nurse-midwife students over the past 20 years,” says Angela Anderson, PhD, a certified nurse-midwife who also holds a doctorate degree and serves as director of Intermountain Nurse Midwives.

The American College of Nurse-Midwives is a professional organization that represents 11,546 certified nurse-midwives and certified midwives in the United States. Its members assist with over 300,000 births a year, which is roughly 7.5 percent of all births in the nation.

Intermountain Nurse Midwives opened in 1989 at Intermountain Healthcare's Bryner Clinic, then moved to LDS Hospital with three founding certified nurse midwives: Deanne Williams, Ida Ripley, and Lynne Atwood. They moved to Intermountain Medical Center when the hospital opened in 2007, and the practice now includes nine certified nurse midwives: Angela Anderson, Melissa Borrack, Teresa Danery, DeeDee Fedorchak, Angel Murdock, Mary Kaye Reynolds, Jill Richardson, Ida Ripley, and Jannette Yorgason.
