Sandy Clinic 2011 Excellence in Healthcare Award

Congratulations to Sandy Clinic's doctors and staff members for earning a 2011 Excellence in Healthcare Award in the categories of "Child Asthma Management" and "Colon Cancer Screening". The Excellence in Healthcare Award is given annually by SelectHealth to recognize doctors and clinics for providing exemplary care to their patients.

Our clinic is one of almost two dozen Intermountain Healthcare clinics in the Salt Lake City area that received a Excellence in Healthcare Award for 2011.

Awards are given in the "Asthma Management" category to clinics that have rates in the top ten percent or have met the designated benchmark of excellence below: 

• Cares for at least 30 SelectHealth patients who have higher-risk asthma 
• Scores are based on the following criteria and rates:
  • 97.56% or higher of patients who have higher risk asthma who have not been admitted to an emergency room;
  • 98.56% or higher of patients with higher risk asthma who have not had high use of a beta agonist;
  • 95.05% or higher of patients with higher risk asthma who are on a controller

Awards are given in the "Colon Cancer Screening" category to clinics that have rates in the top ten percent or have met the designated benchmark of excellence below:

• Cares for at least 30 SelectHealth patients ages 51 to 80
• 81% or higher for screening, which includes:
  • FOBT in the measurement year
  • Sigmoidoscopy or Double Contrast Barium Enema (DCBE) in the last five years
  • Colonoscopy in the last ten years
