Arthritis of the Knee and Hip will be Addressed at Free Workshop on Wednesday at Alta View Hospital

A free workshop on treatment options for osteoarthritis of the knee and hip will be held on Wednesday, May 16, at 6:30 p.m. in classroom B at Alta View Hospital, 9660 South 1300 East in Sandy.

Michael Johnson, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at Alta View Hospital, will discuss the causes of osteoarthritis of the hip and knee, how it's diagnosed, and options for reducing the pain it causes.

Osteoarthritis is a type of arthritis that is caused by breakdown of cartilage with eventual loss of the cartilage of the joints. Cartilage is a protein substance that serves as a cushion between the bones of the joints. More than 43 million Americans have arthritis and 15 million of them suffer from osteoarthritis.

"If you're in pain, you don't have to just live with it," says Dr. Johnson. "Many treatment options are available today that can help people suffering from knee and hip pain get back to regular activity quickly."

There's no need to RSVP for the workshop, but if you have questions or want more information about it, call 801-501-2795.
