Free Community Seminars to Highlight Use of Robotic Technology to Treat Incontinence and Prostate Cancer

 MURRAY – Intermountain Medical Center is offering the community a chance to get up close and personal with robotic technology that is changing the way gynecological and urological surgery is being performed.

Intermountain Medical Center is holding two free community seminars at 7 pm on May 17 and 18 to demonstrate how the da Vinci Robot is being successfully used to treat incontinence and prostate cancer.

On May 17, Richard Matern, MD, will be presenting on the use of the robot in treating prostate cancer. On May 18, Steven Lynch, MD, and Scott Putnam, MD, will be addressing the use of the robot in treating incontinence in women and other gynecological procedures. 

Both seminars will be held in the Doty Education Center (Building 6) at Intermountain Medical Center, 5300 South State Street, in Murray. A demonstration model of the robot will be on hand at the seminars for individuals to see how it works.

“Robotic technology is becoming more common in surgery, giving physicians a sophisticated tool that can help with the precise nature of surgery. We are seeing excellent outcomes in cases where the robot is being used,” said Jay Bishoff, MD, director of urological program at Intermountain Medical Center.  “We are pleased to be able to offer this educational event for our community and allow people to become more familiar with this technology.”

Intermountain Medical Center is one of only a few hospitals in the Intermountain West to feature the DaVinci robot.
