Most Influential Physician Executives in Healthcare

Intermountain Healthcare's Charles Sorenson, MD, president and CEO, and Brent James, MD, chief quality officer, have been named among Modern Healthcare's "50 Most Influential Physician Executives in Healthcare." Drs. Sorenson and James were both on the list last year.

According to the magazine, this year's ranking reflects a change in the healthcare industry. A number of the names that have regularly been on the list in the past are gone or have moved down in the rankings, particularly those with ties to the federal government.

The ranking began with 2,700 nominations, which were narrowed to a final ballot of 100 physician executives who received the most nominations. Modern Healthcare readers cast some 17,000 votes on the ballot, accounting for 50 percent of the final voting outcome. The other 50 percent of the final ballot total was comprised of votes cast by senior editors of Modern Healthcare and Modern Physician magazines.
