Alta View Hospital Named One of the Nation’s Top 100 Hospitals

SANDY, UT - Alta View Hospital on Monday was named one of the Top 100 Hospitals in the nation by Truven Health Analytics, the former healthcare business of Thomson Reuters.

Alta View was the only hospital in the Salt Lake Valley to make the respected list compiled annually by Truven, which provides information and solutions nationwide to improve the cost and quality of healthcare.

The Truven Health 100 Top Hospitals study examined performance in 10 areas: mortality, medical complications, patient safety, average patient stay, financial performance, profitability, patient satisfaction, adherence to clinical standards of care, post-discharge mortality, and readmission rates for heart attack, heart failure, and pneumonia

“We’ve always known we provide the highest quality healthcare at Alta View Hospital, but it’s very rewarding to be recognized nationally like this,” said Alta View Hospital Administrator Bryan Johnson. “This is a wonderful validation of the dedication and skill of our team.”

Alta View Hospital is part of the nationally renowned Intermountain Healthcare system. Alta View Hospital has served families in the southern part of the Salt Lake Valley for more than 30 years.

Alta View is the only small community hospital in Utah among the winners. Alta View joins two other Intermountain facilities on the list: Logan Regional Hospital in Logan, and McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden.

To conduct the study, researchers from Truven Health evaluated 2,922 acute care hospitals using public information on cost, quality, safety, and patient satisfaction from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Hospitals don’t apply for or pay to market Truven Top 100 designation, as is the case with many hospital awards.

The winning hospitals were announced in the February 25 edition of Modern Healthcare magazine. Truven says that if all Medicare inpatients received the same level of care as those treated in the award-winning facilities:

• More than 164,000 additional lives could be saved.
• Approximately 82,000 additional patients could be complication free.
• $6 billion could be saved.
• The average patient stay would decrease by nearly half a day.

If the same standards were applied to all inpatients, the impact would be even greater. “The winners of the 100 Top Hospitals award have driven the national benchmarks higher every year for 20 years.
