Primary Children's Ranks 15th on Best Children's Hospitals List

A new poll released today by Parents magazine names Primary Children’s Medical Center the 15th Best Children’s Hospital in the U.S. The same survey rank's Primary Children's Heart Center 8th in the nation.

Parents magazine worked with the Children's Hospital Association to conduct the survey last fall. The survey was extensive and considered more than one-thousand pieces of information.  More than 60 children’s hospitals from across the country participated in the survey.

The rankings are based on several categories including treatment-success rates, safeguards to prevent medical errors, research studies, doctor’s experience, community outreach, and support services that address the emotional needs of families.

“Our goal is to always provide the best care for our patients and their families,” says Katy Welkie, CEO of Primary Children’s. “We are continually working to improve our family support services so our patient stay is less stressful for parent.”

In addition to ranking hospitals based on their overall quality, Parents also judged hospitals based on six pediatric specialty areas. Primary Children’s Heart Center earned an 8th place ranking.

"This ranking is well-deserved recognition for all the hard work that the Heart Center staff has put into our new program,” says Dr. Peter Gruber, Chief of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery at Primary Children’s.  “Building on a the legacy of clinical excellence at Primary Children’s, the Heart Center provides innovative, collaborative care to treat the most complex congenital heart disease patients."

These rankings recognize Primary Children's as one of the very best children's hospitals in the western United States for parents to take their children to.

The results of the extensive survey will appear in the March 2013 issue of Parents on newsstands nationwide on February 12th as well as online at http://www.parents.com/health/doctors/best-childrens-hospitals/.
