Intermountain Board Chair Honored by Salt Lake Chamber

On March 27, the Salt Lake Chamber awarded its most prestigious honor, “A Giant in Our City,” to Scott Anderson, chairman of Intermountain’s Board of Trustees since April 2012 and a Board member since 2005. Anderson is president and chief executive officer of Zions First National Bank. The award was also presented to Harris Simmons, chairman, president, and CEO of Zions Bancorporation, the parent company of Zions First National Bank.

These were the 33^rd and 34^th awards presented in the history of the Chamber, which established the honor in 1969 and first presented it the following year. “A Giant in Our City” recognizes community leaders who are exemplars of exceptional public service and professional achievement. Past honorees include two former Intermountain CEOs, Scott Parker and Bill Nelson, and a number of trustees, including Kem Gardner, Intermountain’s previous Board chair.

His generosity in serving, not only with Intermountain but also with many other organizations in our community, is a testament to his exceptional character and abilities.”

“I could not possibly overstate the impact these great men have had—and continue to make—on our community,” said Lane Beattie, Salt Lake Chamber President and CEO. “They have strengthened businesses across Utah, supported important community programs, and made incalculable contributions to the quality of life of all Utahns.”

A native of Salt Lake City, Anderson has a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University and a master’s in International Studies from John Hopkins University. He has worked at Zions First National Bank since 1991. Previously, he worked at Bank of America for 17 years. Anderson has devoted his personal and professional life to strengthening his community. In addition to his service on the Intermountain Board of Trustees, he teaches financial literacy in local schools and volunteers with the United Way. He also served as chair of the Salt Lake Chamber Board of Governors in 2002 and 2003. Anderson is a leader in working to stimulate Utah’s economy and bring high-technology companies and jobs to the state. He has received many awards and honors, including Utah Business magazine’s CEO of the Year.
