Intermountain's Dr. Brent James Recognized as Leader in Patient Safety

Becker's list of patient safety leaders includes individuals at national organizations, universities and healthcare organizations working to improve patient safety. The list consists of advocates, professors, researchers, administrators and healthcare providers who have won awards, published articles, spoken out and led initiatives to reduce harm and ensure safety. James is the only person from Utah to make the list and is one of only a handful from the western United States.

The recognition draws attention to the fact that James has trained more than 5,500 healthcare professionals in clinical management methods through the Intermountain Advanced Training Program in Clinical Practice Improvement, and an additional 7,500 people have been trained when counting those attending one of James' 46 sister training programs. 

James was raised on a ranch in Idaho, educated in Utah, and trained and established as a surgeon in Boston. He returned to Utah from Harvard and joined Intermountain Healthcare in 1986.
