One of Nation's Best In Use of Computer Technology

Intermountain Healthcare has been named on the 2013 Health Care's Most Wired Hospital list, based on a study conducted by the American Hospital Association. Intermountain has been named among the nation's most technologically savvy hospital systems in 14 of the 15 years the survey has been conducted.

"This year's Most Wired organizations exemplify progress through innovation" says Rich Umbdenstock, president and CEO of the American Hospital Association. "The hospital field can learn from these outstanding organizations ways that IT can help to improve efficiency."

The Most Wired assessments on hospitals and health systems nationwide were based on infrastructure, business and administrative management, clinical quality and safety, care continuum, and new areas such as big data analytics and patient generated data.

Earlier this year, respondents completed 659 surveys, representing 1,713 hospitals, or roughly 30 percent of all U.S. hospitals. The AHA journal Hospitals & Health Networks published the results in its July issue.

"Patients receive better medical care when doctors and clinicians have access to complete and accurate electronic health information," says Marc Probst, Intermountain vice president and chief information officer. "By having this data available at our fingertips, we are helping those who care for patients make a positive impact on health and medical outcomes."

Intermountain has been developing and using computerized medical systems since the 1970s. A complete listing of the rankings is at hhnmag.com.
