Do You Suffer From Acid Reflux?

Alta View Hospital is holding a free community discussion on acid reflux with general surgeon Mark Mawhinney, MD, at 6:30 pm, on Wednesday, November 20.

The presentation will be held in Alta View’s Women’s Center Classroom, 3rd floor, 9600 South 1300 East, Sandy.

Millions of Americans suffer from acid reflux, which occurs when the valve at the entrance to the stomach stops closing properly. If the valve doesn’t close all the way, or if it opens too often, stomach acid can enter the esophagus. This can cause chest pain called heartburn.

Dr. Mawhinney’s presentation will focus on acid reflux treatments, from medication to minimally invasive surgery.

“Modern medications are highly effective in treating acid reflux,” says Dr. Mawhinney. “Minimally invasive surgical techniques are also available and are extremely successful for patients whose symptoms aren’t controlled with medication or who want to discontinue medication altogether.”

After the presentation, Dr. Mawhinney will make time to answer questions. Light refreshments served.

No RSVP necessary, but if you’d like more information please call 801-501-2795.
